Inspiration and Collabiration
I had the pleasure to work on a new space for InCrowd. As a startup that grew out of its original space, they were looking to up grade not only square ft but the image as well.
My first task was to understand the companies culture and its requriments for the space. Prior tenants has the main space set up as cubicles but the founders of InCrowed wanted to have a gathering space for comfortable casual and company wide hands on meetings. Another important
This project was a great example of how one room can serve many purposes in a well thought out, beautiful and personalized space.
I met with a wonderful family that wanted a multi use space. The room was used in several ways: by the children for a play area, parents - when working from home, dinning room, the family to relax as well as for dinners together. And of course by the family dog who would spend days relaxing by the TV.
The original space was not set up optimally. There was no storage for kids toys, a dinning set that sat 10 that took up to much room and an older couch that did not reflect the nature of this young family.
The family loves the beach and wanted something that reminded them of Cape Cod and at the same time reminded them of a yearly family trip to Ireland to visit family. Incorporating some elements of both places was important for the family to feel connected and comfortable in the space.
Use of natural wood, white furniture and gray/blue pallet allowed us to create a bright, airy feel of the beach while at the same time use of traditional shapes hinted at the beauty of Irish style. We completed the look with some great family portraits and beach pictures from their travels.
The final design featured a large sectional with a work station for kids/ parents, a dining room set that fit the family daily use and special get togethers. New storage for kids toys, and a set of recliners to relax after a long day.
And of course a special space for the dog to relax
